Clearwater Defense Lawyer : More drugs = more problems

An interesting but all too familiar story in yesterday's St. Petersburg Times...

In CLEARWATER, Police showed up to stop a fight early Sunday. Instead they arrested a man they say was growing marijuana.

The defendant 23, of Clearwater was charged with manufacturing marijuana. He remained in the Pinellas County Jail on this past Monday in lieu of $5,000 bail.

Police said they showed up near in an area of US 19 about 3 a.m. Sunday after a report of a possible fight involving multiple people. While investigating, officers received a tip from an unknown source that there might be pot plants stored in the trailer residence.

Police asked the defendant if they could search his trailer. Police said they found 10 pot plants, 44 grams of pot seeds, 14.2 grams of pot residue and 3.3 grams of hydroponic marijuana. It was not known if the pot plants held enough marijuana to have him charged with drug trafficking. If the defendant IS charged with drug trafficking instead of marijuana possession, he could be facing a mandatory prison sentence. This mandatory sentence severity depends on the amount of illegal drugs in weight/volume that he possessed.
